Following the terrorist attacks that killed 129 persons in different neighborhoods of Paris in the night of Friday, November 13, 2015, the team at France-Amérique wishes to express its stupor, its sadness, and its inabilty to comprehend such a tragedy. Our most sincere condolences to the victims’ families.
Shortly after the beginning of the assaults in Paris, President Barack Obama condemned an “outragous attack on innocent civilians” and pledged to provide “whatever assistance the government and the people of France need to respond.” He also reaffirmed his solidarity with France “in the fight against terrorism and extremism.”
President François Hollande responded shorty after with a similar statement. In order to neutralize the terrorists and ensure the safety of the entire city, he said, he ordered military reinforcements to take position in and around Paris. Finally, he declared the state of emergency on the entire French territory and the closing of the borders. Against this new assault on the country, he concluded, France must remain united, strong, and firm.
In the wake of the attacks, both presidents had a conversation over the phone and pledged “to work together to defeat the scourge of terrorism.”
