2018 Boston French Film Festival

The 2018 edition of the Boston French Film Festival kicks off with an outdoor screening of the touching documentary Faces Places (Visages Villages), in which 89-year-old director Agnès Varda and street artist JR, 55 years her junior, explore their shared love of images while traveling through rural France, creating monumental portraits of people (and goats) they meet along the way and displaying them on the sides of houses, barns, shipping containers…

Other films on the stellar lineup include Claire Denis’s nuanced romantic comedy Let the Sunshine In (Un beau soleil intérieur), starring Juliette Binoche; the opulent period piece The Royal Exchange (L’Echange des princesses), about royal matchmaking in early 18th-century France and Spain; and Michael Haneke’s latest drama, Happy End, with Jean-Louis Trintignant as the fading patriarch of a wealthy, troubled family.
