50th Anniversary of “Au Hasard Balthazar” by Robert Bresson

Beginning Wednesday November 23, Metrograph will present the 50th anniversary of Au Hasard Balthazar, with a one-week revival run in a 35mm print. Even in a filmography as singularly perfect as Robert Bresson’s, Au Hasard Balthazar, the story of a donkey passing through the hands of a number of human owners, stands apart. Exhibiting the placid, gentle temperament of a true, forbearing Christian throughout, Balthazar the donkey crosses into mythic status. The film, on it’s 50th anniversary, has done the same.

In conjunction with the 50th Anniversary revival run of Au Hasard Balthazar, six masterpieces by the great Robert Bresson will also screen from November 23 to December 1.
