Camille Henrot

The New York-based French multimedia artist Camille Henrot often draws connections between peoples, eras, places, art forms, and fields of study in her work. Her video Grosse Fatigue, which earned her a Silver Lion at the 2013 Venice Biennale, exemplifies this associative tendency. The fruit of a months-long residency among the encyclopedic holdings of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC, it may be viewed as a commentary on the exhausting proliferation of information that bombards us from screens day and night. A maelstrom of images backed by electronic music and spoken-word poetry, the video combines creation myths from sources as diverse as Buddhism and Inuit culture.
