The French House at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. It was founded by Professors Hugh A. Smith and Jeanne Harouel Greenleaf in the summer of 1918 as the first French language immersion university residence in the United States. The corporation — The French House, Inc. — established in 1922 became an institution on campus and began serving not only its residents but the greater Madison community by hosting events throughout the year.
Join us Friday night of Homecoming Weekend to celebrate our centennial as we honor the people, past & present, who have made the French House what it is today. We will also look forward to the future of the French House on our campus and in our community.
