Charles Gounod’s “Roméo et Juliette”

Wolf Trap Opera presents a new production of Charles Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette, first performed in Paris in 1867. The libretto is mostly faithful to the Shakespearean tragedy on which it was based, but its authors took the liberty of keeping Roméo alive long enough in the tomb scene to sing the opera’s fourth and final duet with Juliette when she awakens from her drug-induced sleep. Starring Alexander McKissick and Vanessa Vasquez in the title roles. In French with English titles.
