When New York’s Metropolitan Opera first opened its doors in 1883, it did so with a performance of Gounod’s then hugely popular Faust. Lyric Opera of Chicago and Portland Opera have teamed up for a new production of the work, now widely considered the composer’s masterpiece. Designed by Southern California visual artist John Frame, this innovative staging features sculpture and stop-motion animation. Directed by Kevin Newbury and starring Jonathan Boyd in the title role, Angel Blue as Marguerite, and Alfred Walker as Méphistophélès. In French with English titles.
