This September and October, the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF), New York’s premiere French cultural center, presents Beyond the Ingénue, a new CinéSalon series exploring the heady experience of being a girl on the verge of adulthood. From the New Wave to present day, this series puts a spotlight on young women who take charge of their destinies.
Identities, bodies, and desires are all in flux for these women, willfully experimenting with love and sexuality as they grapple with finding their place in the world. These new and classic French films smash the trope of the ingénue with captivating, vital portraits of girls who are anything but innocent.
