Compagnie XY’s “It’s Not Yet Midnight…”

The Lille-based nouveau cirque troupe Compagnie XY embraces not only gender equality (as indicated by its name) but true community—no mere philosophical concept for 22 acrobats who perform with no safety gear and must literally catch each other when they fall. Their shows feature a minimum of props and a maximum of physicality, with the performers forming human towers and catapulting through the air onto each other’s shoulders. This month, they visit three U.S. cities to perform Il n’est pas encore minuit… (It’s Not Yet Midnight…), an exploration of “that moment when everything is still possible,” as one troupe member told The Guardian.

June 2 and 3 at Avenida Plaza, Houston, TX
June 6 through 11 at Memminger Auditorium, Charleston, SC
July 19 through 22 at Lincoln Center’s Rose Theater, New York, NY
