When New York’s Metropolitan Opera first opened its doors in 1883, it did so with a performance of Gounod’s then hugely popular Faust. Lyric Opera of Chicago and Portland Opera have teamed up for a new production of the work, now widely considered the composer’s masterpiece. Designed by Southern California visual artist John Frame, this innovative staging features sculpture and stop-motion animation. Directed by Kevin Newbury, with Emmanuel Villaume conducting. Starring Benjamin Bernheim in the title role, Ailyn Pérez and Ana María Martínez as Marguerite, and Christian Van Horn as Méphistophélès. In French with English titles.
