Matisse in His Time

Some 100 prize pieces from Europe’s largest museum of Modern art make a stateside appearance in Matisse in His Time: Masterworks of Modernism from the Centre Pompidou, Paris. Half of these are paintings, sculptures, drawings, and prints by Matisse; spanning his long and fruitful career, they illustrate his role and influence in the  Western art world from the late nineteenth century to the years following World War II. Providing further art historical context, the other half are major works by such celebrated contemporaries as Picasso, Renoir, and Miró.

This will be the show’s sole U.S. presentation.
