Mois de la Francophonie: A Celebration of Senegal

Join Alliance Française Minneapolis/St Paul this March in celebration of Senegal as part of our annual Mois de la Francophonie (Francophone Month) celebration. Each March, more than 33 million people around the world celebrate le Mois de la Francophonie, a global initiative led by the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie to highlight the diversity of French-speaking cultures. This year AFMSP will be will be showcasing Senegal’s rich, historical, and cultural diversity through a range of events over the course of March.

Ndajé Téranga Party
Saturday, Mar 4 at 6 pm at Alliance Française Mpls/St Paul
Kick-off the Mois de la Francophonie celebration with a historical and cultural overview of Senegal. Enjoy Senegalese cuisine and a dance session.

Art Opening with Bamba Cissé & Carol Bouska
Thursday, Mar 9 at 6:30 pm at Alliance Française Mpls/St Paul

Come explore the work of a Young Senegalese artist and a live painting session along with beautiful photographs of Senegal taken by a local photographer.

Senegalese Pottery with Adama Sow
Saturday, Mar 11 at 1 pm at Alliance Française Mpls/St Paul

This Senegalese master on the potter’s wheel has been working with clay for more than twenty years.

Discussion topics will feature the question about African participation in the 2 world wars, African intellectual life during colonial.

Wolof Class & Ataya
Saturday, Mar 18 at 4 pm at Alliance Française Mpls/St Paul

Come learn some Wolof terms, the national language of Senegal while enjoying a delicious round of Ataya, Senegalese tea!

Webster Concert
Thursday, Mar 23 at 7 pm at The Cedar Cultural Center

Iconic SénéQueb hip hop artist Webster on tour in the Midwest featuring a guest performance.

Webster Workshop
Saturday, Mar 25 at 10 am at Alliance Française Mpls/St Paul

Webster will tackle rhymes, metaphors, comparisons, inspiration methods.

Soirée Djembés avec Ghana Mbaye,
Saturday, Mar 25 at 6:30 pm at Alliance Française Mpls/St Paul

An endless ocean of rhythm and sound from the coast of West Africa. Ghana will be performing live in la Grande Salle and will teach an hour long all levels Djembé class. Senegalese Short levels Djembé class.
