This is a high-energy, emotionally fearless solo performance by Germaine Acogny, widely considered the founder of contemporary African dance. Ballet du Nord director Olivier Dubois created the piece for her; their close collaboration marks the first time in a career spanning some 50 years that she has interpreted the work of another choreographer. As indicated by the title, it is the second in a series of works inspired by Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring that Dubois intends to create.
