Showcased will be a special four-course wine-pairing dinner hosted by Violet Grgich, daughter of famed winemaker Mike Grgich. He made the 1973 Chateau Montelena chardonnay that famously beat out the French Burgundies in the Paris Wine Tasting of 1976, which pitted California wines against French wines. The outcome helped establish the Napa Valley as a world-class wine region. A post-dinner Q&A session with Violet Grgich will be part of the evening. The 2008 comedy-drama “Bottle Shock,” starring the late Alan Rickman, was based on the competition.
The weekend’s centerpiece will be the Grand Market Expo on Oct. 22 at Harrah’s. The room will be filled with tasting stations staffed by chefs from the best restaurants in the hotel-casino chain. Beverage stations will serve top-shelf spirits, Napa Valley wines and craft brews.
