Organized every year in some 100 theaters throughout the U.S., Art House Theater Day celebrates the art house theater and the cultural role it plays in a community. It is a day to recognize the year-round contributions of film and filmmakers, patrons, projectionists, and staff, and the brick and mortar theaters that are passionately dedicated to providing access to the best cinematic experience.
This year’s edition will offer two French fims:
The Big Bad Fox and Other Tales
Directed by Benjamin Renner & Patrick Imkert, 2017
From the creators of the Academy Award-nominated Ernest & Celestine comes another hilarious, heartwarming tale of animal misfits destined to become a classic. Directors Benjamin Renner and Patrick Imbert adapt Renner’s own acclaimed graphic novel into a delirious, delightful triptych of interlocking stories, with a pacing and visual spontaneity that harkens back to classic Looney Tunes shorts and slapstick two-reelers.
Directed by Raja Amari, 2016, 92 minutes
An explosive triangle of jealousy, doubt, and attraction erupts in this fourth feature by Satin Rouge director, Raja Amari. Seeking refuge from her Islamist radical brother whom she informed on, a young woman arrives in France illegally following Tunisia’s Jasmine Revolution and discovers a new world of both hope and danger. This presentation includes a special introduction from the director.
