Ulla von Brandenburg : “It Has a Golden Sun and an Elderly Grey Moon”

Pérez Art Museum Miami presents the work of artist Ulla von Brandenburg in a an exhibition entitled It Has a Golden Sun and an Elderly Grey Moon. The work, created in situ, explores the intersections of dance, color, textiles, ritual and architecture to question the individual’s condition in relation to social hierarchies.

Ulla’s work distinguishes itself by the use of multiple mediums which she transforms in a complex thematic process. The motifs appear in various context, the performances make reference to the wall painting or drawings that are in fact sketches of videos she created, thus becoming a matrix for futur objects. The concept of the carnaval is very present in her work, allowing her to trangress somewhat the social order and evoke our society through ancient imaginary, masks and costumes, emanating from folk tradition – it can be viewed as a sort of quest for a new idendity while subtly blending reality and staged appearances.
