Uptown Flicks @ Maysles is a new monthly Harlem film series curated by Adeline Monzier and co-organized by Marie Gentine. The monthly series features screenings of top recent French films and documentaries followed by a drink to mingle and share reactions! There will be screenings every 4 weeks on Thursdays. The presented films all have one thing in common: They are questioning the current state of the world, sometimes with a radical perspective, sometimes with a hopeful look at humanity at its best, and end up opening our eyes about the role images and narratives play in bringing these issues to our awareness.
Join us for our second event on Thursday, November 9 at 7pm at the Maysles Cinema in Harlem for the screening of Faces/Places followed by a cocktail party! 89-year old Agnes Varda, one of the leading figures of the French New Wave, and acclaimed 33 year-old French photographer and muralist JR teamed up to co-direct this enchanting road movie/documentary. The film is a New York Times “Critic’s Pick”, winner of the Golden Eye Prize at the Cannes Film Festival and certain to be short listed and nominated for the 2017 Best Documentary oscar.
