Uptown Flicks @ Maysles is a new monthly Harlem film series curated by Adeline Monzier and co-organized by Marie Gentine. The monthly series features screenings of top recent French films and documentaries followed by a drink to mingle and share reactions! There will be screenings every 4 weeks on Thursdays. The presented films all have one thing in common: They are questioning the current state of the world, sometimes with a radical perspective, sometimes with a hopeful look at humanity at its best, and end up opening our eyes about the role images and narratives play in bringing these issues to our awareness.
Uptown Flicks’ kick off screening of Speak Up (A voix haute : La Force de la parole) by Stéphane de Freitas on October 14th at 7pm at the Maysles Cinema in Harlem is almost sold out. But we still have $10 tickets for overflow seating in the downstairs cozy lounge of Maysles Cinema which includes screening, simulcast of the post screening Q&A and cocktail party afterwards. It’s a fun and relaxed set up to watch the movie.
