This Week on TV5 Monde USA (August 10-16)

Every week, France-Amérique will compile a list of 5 films, series, documentaries, cooking shows, and children’s shows you don’t want to miss on TV5 Monde USA, the first French-language television channel in the United States.

1. Echappées Belles: Marseille, la Vie en Bleu
Monday, August 10, at 8:30 pm EST (5:30 pm PST)

The clear blue sky, the deep blue sea, the Blue Coast, Marseille and its surroundings see “la vie en bleu.” European capital of culture in 2013, Marseille has been catapulted into the spotlight and declared one of the world’s most desirable destinations. | Documentary directed by Jérôme Pitorin (France, 2016).

2. The Dinner Game
Tuesday, August 11, at 8:30 pm EST (5:30 pm PST)

Every Wednesday, Pierre, an editor, attends a “dinner for schmucks.” Each guest brings along an idiot, and the person who invites the most spectacularly idiotic one among them is declared the winner. Tonight, his guest is François Pignon, an enthusiastic maker of matchstick models and a real bad luck charm… | Film directed by Francis Veber with Jacques Villeret, Thierry Lhermitte, Francis Huster, and Catherine Frot (France, 1998).

Wednesday, August 12, at 10:30 am EST (7:30 am PST)

We discover one of treasures of the Aquitaine region: the Corniche Basque, eight kilometers of coastal cliffs free of any recent construction. This protected, 360-hectare area is the pride of the three cities watching over it: Ciboure, Urrugne, and Hendaye. | Documentary directed by Eric Perrin (France, 2020).

4. Les Châteaux de France: Fontainebleau, le Château des Rois
Friday, August 14, at 3 pm EST (12 pm PST)

Built in a forest, Fontainebleau began as a royal hunting residence and can boast no fewer than eight centuries of continuous royal presence. Francis I and Henri IV were among the monarchs who left their mark here thanks to construction work. Today, visiting Fontainebleau offers a journey back through French history. | Documentary directed by Salvatore Guadagnino (France, 2017).

5. Tellement Proches
Sunday, August 16, at 8:30 pm EST (5:30 pm PST)

Like every Saturday evening, Alain is dining with his in-laws. But, more than ever before, Alain has had enough. Enough of his brother-in-law telling how to run his life, enough of remarks about his hyperactive son, enough of his sister-in-law’s anxieties. But he has no idea of what’s in store for him this time… | Film directed by Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache with Vincent Elbaz, Isabelle Carré, and François-Xavier Demaison (France, 2018).
