French Masterpieces for Violin & Harp

The Cultural Services of the French Embassy exceptionnally welcome this special event, when the violinist Elmira Darvarova and the harpist Mélanie Genin will perform French masterpieces for violin and harp on December 13, 7:30pm.

A Grammy-nominated recording artist, an award-winning performer (Gold Medal at the 2017 Global Music Awards) and a concert violinist since the age of four, Elmira Darvarova caused a sensation, becoming the first ever (and so far only) woman-concertmaster in the history of the Metropolitan Opera in New York. She has performed with the greatest conductors and on the most prestigious stages in the world. Well-versed not only in opera, symphonic and chamber music repertoire, she performs and records in many other genres and styles, including tango, jazz, contemporary/electronic music, Stroh violin, and Indian ragas. She can be heard on numerous CDs.

A native of France, Mélanie Genin was selected as one of only two recipients of a Bruni-Sarkosy Foundation scholarship to study at The Juilliard School in New York with Nancy Allen. She subsequently became the first harpist to ever be admitted into the Artist Diploma program at The Manhattan School of Music. In 2014 she was named the only harpist finalist of the Concert Artist Guild competition and was also a semi-finalist of the Young Concert Artist series in New York. Since her solo debut at Carnegie Hall with the International Shining Stars, she has performed in some of the most prestigious halls in the world.
