Il s\u2019est e\u0301coule\u0301 plus de vingt ans entre le de\u0301but de l\u2019e\u0301criture de ce petit texte, a\u0300 peine plus e\u0301pais qu\u2019une nouvelle, et sa publication en France en mai 2022. Il vient de para\u00eetre aux Etats-Unis, aure\u0301ole\u0301 du prix Nobel de litte\u0301rature de\u0301cerne\u0301 a\u0300 Annie Ernaux<\/span><\/a><\/span> en de\u0301cembre dernier. Re\u0301cit de sa liaison, alors qu\u2019elle avait 54 ans, avec un e\u0301tudiant de trente ans son cadet, Le jeune homme<\/em>, loin d\u2019e\u0302tre anecdotique, condense les the\u0300mes qui irriguent son \u0153uvre : la me\u0301moire, le corps des femmes, la conscience d\u2019appartenir aux classes populaires.<\/p>

Il donne aussi des clefs sur les liens entre l\u2019e\u0301criture et la vie, l\u2019autrice avouant en exergue avoir parfois fait l\u2019amour pour \u00ab s\u2019obliger a\u0300 e\u0301crire \u00bb. Comme Marguerite Duras et Yann Andre\u0301a, son dernier compagnon, l\u2019e\u0301crivaine connue et l\u2019e\u0301tudiant pre\u0301caire se sont rencontre\u0301s par la litte\u0301rature. Lecteur admiratif, il lui a e\u0301crit pour lui te\u0301moigner son admiration puis est devenu un amant jaloux et maladroit. Tout, dans ses gestes, renvoie la narratrice a\u0300 sa propre jeunesse normande et au cafe\u0301-e\u0301picerie de ses parents. \u00ab Il e\u0301tait le porteur de la me\u0301moire de mon premier monde \u00bb, e\u0301crit-elle. \u00ab Il e\u0301tait le passe\u0301 incorpore\u0301. \u00bb Par une violente coi\u0308ncidence, les fene\u0302tres de l\u2019appartement rouennais ou\u0300 ils se retrouvent le weekend donnent sur l\u2019Ho\u0302tel-Dieu, l\u2019ancien ho\u0302pital ou\u0300 l\u2019e\u0301crivaine, alors e\u0301tudiante, avait e\u0301te\u0301 transporte\u0301e en urgence suite a\u0300 une he\u0301morragie provoque\u0301e par un avortement clandestin. Un souvenir traumatique datant de 1963 qui deviendra la matie\u0300re de L\u2019 e\u0301ve\u0301nement<\/em> (2000) et que cette histoire a mis au jour comme un re\u0301ve\u0301lateur photographique.<\/p>

Livre palimpseste ou\u0300 les images et les e\u0301poques se superposent, Le jeune homme<\/em> est a\u0300 la croise\u0301e de deux branches de l\u2019\u0153uvre d\u2019Annie Ernaux : les re\u0301cits autobiographiques sur sa jeunesse, comme La place<\/em> (1984) ou Me\u0301moire de fille<\/em> (2016), et les livres sur des e\u0301ve\u0301nements plus re\u0301cents, comme Passion simple<\/em> (1992) ou L\u2019occupation<\/em> (2002). Avec beaucoup de since\u0301rite\u0301, de lucidite\u0301, elle explore son inte\u0301riorite\u0301 et ose regarder le traumatisme en face. En confrontant deux e\u0301poques, deux a\u0302ges de la vie d\u2019une femme, elle observe aussi le chemin parcouru pour se libe\u0301rer des carcans. Scandaleuse dans les anne\u0301es 1960 parce qu\u2019elle osait laisser son corps libre sous une robe moulante, elle affronte cra\u0302nement les regards trente ans plus tard, en se promenant au bras de son jeune amant.
