"Our colleague and friend.” This is how we knew Janet Flanner at France-Amérique when the newspaper had its offices at 730 Fifth Avenue. Was the American journalist inspired by the testimonies from Resistance fighters we published during World War II to write her “Letters from Paris” for the New Yorker? We may never know. However, exclusively for France-Amérique, she wrote a column filled with patriotism and hope for Bastille Day in 1943. We have reprinted it here in full.
