Claude & François-Xavier Lalanne: Nature Transformed

MAY 8-OCTOBER 31, 2021

The Clark Art Institute
225 South Street
Williamstown, MA 01267

The married French artists Claude (1924-2019) and François-Xavier (1927-2008) Lalanne shared a fascination with the natural world and a disregard for the distinction between the fine and decorative arts – not to mention a lighthearted taste for the surreal. Although they rarely collaborated on pieces and even worked in separate studios, they often exhibited together as Les Lalanne. Claude & François-Xavier Lalanne: Nature Transformed presents 20 pieces of sculpture, furniture, flatware, and jewelry, including a rhinoceros desk by François-Xavier and one of Claude’s signature cabbage-chicken hybrids, dubbed Choupattes.
