A Celebration of Martinique and Guadeloupe

MARCH 5 – 31, 2021

Alliance Française Minneapolis/St Paul

For the Mois de la Francophonie (Francophone Month), a celebration of French language and cultures throughout the world held every year in March, the Alliance Française of Minneapolis/St Paul is exploring the islands of Martinique and Guadeloupe, two French départements in the Caribbean.

The online celebration will begin on March 5 with an opening ceremony and a presentation on the history, geography, and languages of the two islands by professors Hanétha Vété-Congolo, Audrey Lordinot, and Odile Ferly. Other events will include a cooking class with chef Jérémie Jean-Baptiste of Martinique, a discussion on French Caribbean fashion and the dichotomy of traditional and modern styles, and a concert featuring the music of Olivier Glissant and Victor O.
