Alphonse Mucha: Art Nouveau Visionary

OCTOBER 23, 2021-JANUARY 23, 2022

North Carolina Museum of Art

Alphonse Mucha: Art Nouveau Visionary explores the visual language and international influence of the Czech-born master, whose posters for French actress Sarah Bernhardt propelled him to fame in Belle Epoque Paris. He would bring his signature aesthetic, characterized by graceful female figures and intricate, often floral-themed decorative motifs, to everything from ads for gaufrettes to banknotes for the newly independent Republic of Czechoslovakia.
