Animation First Festival
FEBRUARY 11-21, 2022
The only festival dedicated to French animation in the United States is back at the French Institute Alliance Française with a special fifth edition featuring programs in person and online. This year’s highlights include 51 premieres, highly anticipated works in progress, a student short film competition, conversations with filmmakers, and more. Florence Miailhe will open the festival with her award-winning first feature The Crossing; a partnership with the Metropolitan Museum of Art will look at Disney’s influence on French animation, along with a 30th-anniversary screening of Beauty and the Beast; and the festival will close with an exclusive screening of The Summit of the Gods by Patrick Imbert, an adaptation of Jiro Taniguchi’s famous mountain-drama manga.
