Cartier and Islamic Art: In Search of Modernity

MAY 14-SEPTEMBER 18, 2022

Dallas Museum of Art
1717 North Harwood Street
Dallas, TX 75201

Established in 1847, Cartier ascended to its iconic status around the turn of the 20th century, under its founder’s grandsons. Always on the lookout for new inspiration, the firm discovered a rich source in the Islamic art then being exhibited and sold in the French capital. The geometric patterns and color combinations of its Art Deco designs reflect this influence. Cartier and Islamic Art: In Search of Modernity illustrates this East-meets-West dynamic through more than 400 pieces of jewelry, luxury objects, works of art, manuscripts, design drawings, historical photographs, and archival documents.
