Patrick Kelly: Runway of Love presents 80 fully accessorized ensembles by the Mississippi-born designer, who rose to fame in Paris and in 1988, two years before his death from AIDS at age 35, became both the first American and the first Black designer to gain entry into France’s prestigious ready-to-wear trade association. Although known for his vibrant, joyful esthetic, Kelly also tackled racism head-on, appropriating its symbols.
